Leave with your own stunning, one-of-a-kind jewellery piece ready to wear. Held in the welcoming environment of a South London jewellery studio, this 3-session course promises an exhilarating journey into the world of jewellery-making, where creativity knows no bounds!

 

Immerse yourself in a fun and creative atmosphere while mastering the fundamental skills of wax carving and stone setting in wax. Gemstones can be embedded directly into sculpted wax pieces and then cast using the lost wax casting method, offering a flexible and fun approach to gemstone mounting and setting experimentation. Discover a range of stones and waxes ideal for this technique, alongside captivating setting styles such as flush, grain, and bezel, igniting creativity and exploration. 

Ring making: Stone setting in wax, 2 sessions

  • In this course, you'll explore wax carving by crafting a ring with a simple design. You will learn to integrate stones using diverse setting techniques like flush, grain, and bezel, enhancing your jewellery-making skills. Once you’re happy with your finished carving I will send it over to a casting company between session 2 and 3. Finally you will finish your piece to your taste, using traditional jewellery techniques such as filing, sanding and polishing.

     

    Session 1:

    In this course, you'll explore wax carving by crafting projects like rings or pendants with simple designs. You will learn to integrate stones using diverse setting techniques like flush, grain, and bezel, enhancing your jewellery-making skills.

     

    We will start the day with a coffee or tea, looking a varied samples of what you will practice on the day, followed by a presentation that contain valuable information about the principle of setting stones directly in waxes. 

    Throughout the day I'll demonstrate how to set stones in wax using both flush, grain and bezel techniques tailored to the wax material. Additionally, I'll offer a plethora of valuable tips and insights, enabling you to refine the techniques covered in the course and beyond!

    I will then send over your masterpiece to a casting company to be cast in the metal of your choice

    Session 2:

    Finishing your casted ring!

    The casting will then need to be finished and polished! The finishing of your project is an essential part of creating a successful and gorgeous jewellery piece. You'll be using traditional jewellery techniques and tools such as sawing, filing, sanding, and polishing and received valuable tips to clean up your casting without damaging the stones in place. There's nothing more exciting than giving the final shine to your personal project!
